Jumpstart Networking Event: Spreading Hope & Optimism

Billie Murphy General Manager, SolarBuddy
Open

Jumpstart Networking Event: Spreading Hope & Optimism

An amazing organisation, SolarBuddy is dedicated to providing innovative solar solutions to 6 million children living in energy poverty by 2030.

800 million people worldwide still do not have access to modern electricity, severely limiting their potential. This means that when the sun goes down, they’re reliant on dangerous and unhealthy energy like kerosene, diesel, wood, candles or battery powered torches, which is expensive and unhealthy for people and the planet, and severely impacts opportunities to thrive.

Providing access to renewable energy solutions can change the lives of children living without access to modern electricity-transforming their future by improving education, health, economic and environmental outcomes.

At the Mastering SAP JumpStart on Wednesday evening 20th July, Billie will share the SolarBuddy story. Our great friends and partners, Think180, have then made it possible for us to each build a solar energy pack that will spread hope and illuminate the future of a child and their family.

Billie has become an accomplished keynote speaker presenting the SolarBuddy story at corporate and school events all over the world. She is passionate about educating others and empowering them to become change makers and have a positive impact in the world. Billie is also a former professional footballer, she represented England at various elite competitions.

Can you Adapt to Thriving in the Roaring 20’s

Can you Adapt to Thriving in the Roaring 20’s

The rate of change that we will experience over the next 10 years means that many organisations that we currently do business with won’t be around in 2032. Or at very least, in their current form. The key to winning the race in your industry is your corporate AQ –Adaptability Quotient. Can you embed agility into your culture? In the way you think, your operating model and can your tech stack support this? The changes in expectations of your customers when it comes to e-commerce, the customer experience or operationally the disruptions in supply chains and our global imperative to drive a sustainability agenda are just some examples. Change and adapt or get left behind. Speed of responsiveness is what is needed, yet as it stands today, there exists a two-speed economy as far as appetite for tech adoption is concerned.

Some companies want to sweat the tech assets they have invested in and for good reason. Others are high on driving an innovation agenda. The conversations of the next 2 days will bring these ideas into sharp focus: Investment into Cloud; Upgrading to S/4HANA, Enhanced Data Analytics, Winning the War on Talent, and Adopting Sustainable practices are all functions of this theme.

  • Have you worked out what your barriers to agility are?
  • If Covid is the punch in the face, what is your company’s plan?

Join our keynote panel from EY, AWS, SAP and Tricentis as they unpack and help you negotiate a rapidly changing world.

IT as an Innovator and Enabler for Konica Minolta’s Customer Centric Future

IT as an Innovator and Enabler for Konica Minolta’s Customer Centric Future

Konica Minolta had been performing on legacy application architecture 15 plus years old, unsupported, unpatched and all on premise. This carried a large degree of technical debt as applications were heavily customized and meant go-to-market products and initiatives were slow to implement. When Covid impacted the business via supply chain issues and reduced project funding, the IT team needed to pivot their plans and quickly drive innovation in Digital Transformation and Customer Insights.

This session will share insights from the journey so far:

  • A move to BW on Hana, hosted on AWS, which gave the business the opportunity to enhance their data extractors and roll out a new customer interface using SAP Analytics, with the view of driving self-service reporting and will be customer facing to gain customer insights
  • Undertaking a greenfield SAP S/4HANA implementation, on-premise and hosted on AWS, which commenced June 2021, due to go-live October 2022. This will optimise our reporting platforms, take customised back-office processes across Finance, Inventory Management and Material Management, back to standard and best practice and lay the foundations for the next steps in our digital transformation.

Insights from the Australian Government Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Program

Insights from the Australian Government Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Program

A recent McKinsey study identifies that up to 70% of tasks in finance are potentially ‘automate-able’ with next-generation technologies. This will mean that a lot of the tasks that finance and accounting teams spend their time on will be accelerated by automation tools. The growing availability of automation solutions offered by SAP and third-party vendors provides a tailwind for organisations to align best practices with intelligent automation technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML).

Join this session to hear how RPA is being utilised by the Australian Government to support the delivery of efficient government service to the Australian public. Stewart shares insights and lessons learned, including more on the Productivity and Automation Centre of Excellence (PACE), a whole-of-government initiative by the Department of Finance that brings together leaders in automation to share, discuss and collaborate.

  • What are the business drivers for automation?
  • What are the different components in establishing an effective portfolio of automation capabilities?
  • What are the most common processes people are wanting to automate?
  • Where should you start with automation to first eliminate paper-based, repetitive manual tasks?
  • How do you successfully scale automation beyond initial pilot projects?

A Second Bite at SAP SuccessFactors – What We Now Know

Hydro Tasmania set out to simplify and consolidate their HRIS and to empower business users with a higher degree of ownership over system and business process. The first-round implementation of SAP SuccessFactors (SAPSF) in 2020 did not provide the user experience outcomes the team was looking for, so they went back to the drawing board to re-evaluate and take the learnings into a refreshed approach to implementation.

In 2022, the team kicked off their SAPSF reimplementation with a renewed approach and perspective on the challenges they needed to manage when it came to data migration, communicating change and ensuring the right level of resources were allocated. Hear how the project was tackled and the lessons that have driven Hydro Tasmania’s refreshed implementation of SAPSF.

  • The business and IT benefits of taking a stepped implementation approach
  • Getting value quickly by knowing what’s in your stack (reward and recognition, badges, licensing examples)

Scaling the SunRice Group’s Security Landscape for Change

Scaling the SunRice Group’s Security Landscape for Change

In April 2019, the SunRice Group listed on the ASX. To adhere to the stringent compliance requirements that came along with that listing SunRice reviewed and expanded their GRC footprint in the SAP space. Already using the Access Risk Manager tool from Soterion to control their Segregation of Duties (SOD) risks, SunRice have now implemented the Elevated Rights and License Auditing modules from the same suite of products.

SunRice recently instigated a role review with the aim of tidying up over 20 years of role development and better structuring roles in preparation for the arrival of SAP S/4HANA. The review achieved tighter control of SOD risk without needing massive systems, enablement of production troubleshooting for the functional and Basis teams in a user and auditor friendly way, streamlined annual SAP License audit process and a reduction in SAP Professional license allocation.

Ben will explain

  • Why you don’t need to write your own SOD/GRC tool! (Your ABAPers may be awesome, but they can do better things with their time)
  • You may not need as many SAP Professional Licenses as you think you do
  • The next time your auditors ask you about your IT Team’s access in Production, be ready.

Leveraging Cloud Analytics, AI and ML to Deliver New Business Insights

A narrow view of traditional cloud-value can limit organisations from achieving significant business outcomes. The value of cloud adoption transcends IT. Cloud is transformational for our customers when they can derive new business insights from a combination of both SAP and Non-SAP data.

Join this interactive discussion to learn how SAP on AWS customers leverage AWS Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities to get near real-time insights which move the needle of their business performance: improving operational efficiency; increasing supply chain efficiency; generating new revenue streams; and detecting and responding to business risks at a faster clip.

We’ll discuss:

  • What steps should you take to avoid automating poor business processes?
  • How is AI typically defined and how can AWS’s AI capability be leveraged?
  • What are some examples of business applications of using ML?
  • What’s the best way to get guidance to start your innovation project?

How to Lead the Charge Towards a Data-Driven Culture in your Business

SAP customers are in a continuous state of change, and increasingly complex business services are integrated across broad shared technology and infrastructure landscapes. Security teams must protect sensitive data flowing across an expanded attack surface, and our development teams release code faster and build more complex interdependencies, increasing unpredictability. Data-driven organisations harness the power of AI, machine learning and predictive analytics to enhance visibility into critical business services that run at the core of how they create value.

Join this discussion to explore how organisations can successfully implement a “top-down” approach and pivot effectively to becoming a ‘data led’ organisation.

  • Where do you start when your organisation isn’t wired this way?
  • How do you know that you are moving in the right direction?
  • What should the roadmap to change look like?
  • Who and how should you lead the conversation around data privacy?

Trends in SAP Tooling

There has never been a time when the developer tooling in the SAP world has been changing and growing as quickly as now.  We see the increasing inclusion of open source and partner tooling directly into the SAP ecosystem.  For instance, major programming models like Fiori and Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model offering their tooling as extensions to Visual Studio Code.

But we also see the continuing influence of Git and code sharing and new lifecycle approaches evolving the way we manage software in the enterprise as well. Of course, the move to the Cloud and Cloud Native architecture brings with them massive changes and opportunities as well.  In this session we will have an open discussion across all of these topics.

Using Human Centered Design to Enable a Transformed, Data-led People Experience at ANZ

Human centred design puts people at the heart of a process. ANZ have adopted this approach in the design and implementation of an intuitive, user friendly and sustainable SAP SuccessFactors solution as part of the PeopleHub Program.

The PeopleHub program has been transforming end-to-end people processes and services to bring process, technology and employee experience together across 33 countries to meet the needs of 50,000+ employees and contingent workers. PeopleHub is about halfway through the introduction of new integrated processes and technology to replace disparate, ageing on-premise systems in support of ANZ’s continued journey of simplification, digitalisation and cloud adoption. PeopleHub will also enable ANZ’s vision of enabling people data-led decisions with a new job and capability architecture throughout the end-to-end talent processes in SuccessFactors.

In this session, participants will hear about the ANZ employee experience journey so far and practical advice on how to tackle people experience transformations.

Genesis Energy New Zealand Integrates HR Systems and Improves Onboarding Experience

Genesis struggled to induct new joiners comprehensively and with a consistent employee experience. They had no fool-proof mechanism to give new joiners the information they requested, nor could they obtain data easily from recruits. All information captured manually from new joiners for recruitment and onboarding purposes was re-keyed into the Employee Central. The process was time-consuming and created room for error and duplication, resulting in incomplete or inconsistent data about employees.

Eighteen months after the implementation of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its human resources (HR) master data system, Genesis realised it needed further HR capability. It opted to partner with DXC Technology to implement SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding 2.0, becoming the first company in New Zealand to install the latest version of the solution. This session will share the Genesis implementation story, lessons that allowed the team to achieve a robust HR data strategy with systems in place to capture, maintain, and report on employee data in a more streamlined manner.

Where should the Finance S/4HANA Journey Start?

The world continues to evolve, businesses need to respond to events or innovate to stay ahead. Finance departments need to respond to business needs and are often asked to do more with less. For many they are asked to do this with a Finance system that was designed for a business and the way they operated five, ten, fifteen, even twenty years ago!

Where should Finance start the journey?

  • Understanding the Vision for Finance within your organisation
  • Knowing what’s possible with SAP S/4HANA
  • Reviewing your Business Processes to determine if they are fit for purpose and support your future vision
  • Identify the value of change

SAP offers a Vision to Value process to help guide you through this process and provide tools to help you understand how to move forward. Join this session to understand where to start the journey and how SAP can enable you.

Efficiency & Compliance with Concur, while Scaling Growth at McGrathNicol

As part of McGrathNicol’s broader Finance transformation, including its S4 cloud ERP launch in late 2019, the firm overhauled its purchase to pay processes with the implementation of Concur. While Concur Expense is well known, it was Concur Invoice that had the biggest immediate impact on both Finance and business users of the AP process. Concur Invoice saw the use of OCR and in-built automations that removed a significant amount of manual data entry, enabled the simplification of business process steps and streamlined the approval workflow – collectively seeing error rates drop from more than 5% of invoices to almost 0.

Since deployment, McGrathNicol has also continued to review and enhance its Expense module, with a project to simplify the user experience around BD / entertainment expenditure completed in early 2022 with input from Concur support, internal resources and an external consultant. Improved spend visibility via Concur’s reporting and stronger inbuilt fraud prevention controls continue to benefit the firm during a period of strong growth.

What Really Happens When You Go User Centric Using BTP?

David Kruijver IT Business Relations Team Lead, TasNetworks

What Really Happens When You Go User Centric Using BTP?

SAP, whether it be ECC or SAP S/4HANA, tends to be a monolithic system with a ‘less than desired’ user experience. Whilst there is plenty of effort expended in attempting to increase the user experience through standard Fiori apps, their ‘standardised’ nature limits the true user experience that can be achieved.

David will present TasNetwork’s experiences in implementing a series of user centric, field based, offline apps which have been built using the SAP Business Technology Platform. The three use cases will include our pole inspection, customer connection verification and customer connection works applications.

The approach has enabled the team to successfully adopt a pole inspection application that has achieved a 25% reduction in back-office effort and achieving near 100% compliance in asset data, utilisation of SAP BTP architecture and support frameworks for non-SAP systems

David will share:

  • The benefits delivered through the successful implementations
  • The lessons learned where apps have not been adopted by the expected user base; and
  • Changes required to ongoing support models beyond the implementations.

A Contemporary Employee Experience Across Key Stages of the Employee Lifecycle

The amalgamation of three Councils to form the Northern Beaches Council (NBC) required the introduction of new ways of working and standardisation of key employee processes. The new entity was aimed to purposefully shape organisational culture, leadership, and management approaches. It was also challenged to develop an EVP to attract competitive talent pools and importantly develop accountability and customer centric behaviours in the new entity, the foundational and continuing hallmarks of our culture.

The implementation of NB’s SAP SuccessFactors modules were strategically prioritised starting with Performance and Goals, moving to Learning Management, then Recruitment, Marketing and Onboarding, then more recently Employee Central, Roster to Pay (UKG) and EC Payroll.

The implementation has enabled:

  • New and consistent ways of working, enabling employees to self-service and managers to exercise their people management roles
  • A link between performance and pay driving a performance culture where people feel fairly rewarded
  • An effective EVP supporting attraction of employees

This session will share learning around the criticality of clear business outcomes to drive the tech solution, the advantages of a phased deployment in line with business drivers and appetite for change including restructure of HR and Payroll functions, plus the importance of change management and staff adoption.

ESG: An Evolution in Company Reporting Requiring Trust and Transparency

Sustainability business practices are rapidly evolving. Corporate sustainability once thought of as only marketing or even storytelling, has evolved dramatically, to public ambitions and demonstrating actions. Research shows a strong correlation exists between environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and operational performance.

Increasingly sophisticated stakeholders are placing high demands on organisations to disclose ESG reporting, in order to showcase a credible and sustainable business model, and taking things into their own hands when one is not evident!

This in turn places significant pressure on Finance and Supply Chain executives to ensure they have full visibility into reliable ESG data and can embed this into their business as usual.

Hear how leading organisations are:

  • Moving beyond financial measures to connected ESG dimensions, ensuring full visibility into the consequences of business actions
  • Addressing stakeholder expectations and evolving standards, closing the gap with transparent, trusted data
  • Embedding ESG into business decisions and extending beyond business boarders into the value chain

Ad-hoc to On-Demand – Journey onto SAP Multi Bank Connectivity for Transport for NSW

Since 2015, when the TfNSW SAP Portfolio was stood up, a native host-to host connectivity ‘Westpac Connector iLink’ was established to link TfNSW to the Banking Partner and conduct the end-to-end bank payment cycle. Over the period , while the solution remained consistent, it proved to be a labor intensive, rigid state interface which was marked for end of software lifecycle support by Dec 2021.

Keeping in line with the TfNSW Technology Roadmap, the Project team were tasked to find a future ready, scalable, and secure financial transaction interface which not only delivered on the current business and organization demands but also aligned with the NSW Government strategic architecture. The TfNSW SAP MBC solution project embarked on onboarding the new SAP MBC solution with three key objectives: Zero Business disruption during transition, iterative roll-out of individual Payment process and end to end testing across the environment.

  • Steps for seamless transition to SAP MBC with zero business outage
  • Hybrid Go Live approach – Payment batches running on MBC and the existing Westpac Connector simultaneously allowing for iterative rollouts and reduction of the business risks
  • Lessons Learnt – Migration of custom objects and configs from Customer namespace to SAP MBC namespace

Empowering SAP Process with Fiori: A Real-Life Journey

SA Power Networks usage of Fiori supporting SAP processes has spanned eight years with the shift to an agile delivery framework in 2015. This has increased the value and speed in which apps have been delivered to the business.

SA Power Networks has built a well-established Fiori capability leading to innovation in areas such as the use object recognition (ML) in within their inventory processes. A successful implementation of SAP S/4HANA Utilities in 2021 followed a browser first approach to deliver an end-to-end experience for users on the Fiori Launch Pad. SA Power Networks is currently tackling the migration of ERP to SAP S/4HANA via a system conversion, presenting difference challenges to that of a greenfield implementation of SAP S/4HANA Utilities.

The journey to date has realised:

  • A trusted relationship with the business, delivering process efficiencies through a modernised user experience via an agile delivery model
  • Process efficiencies with application of machine learning into our SAP inventory processes
  • End to end Fiori Launch Pad experience delivered for SAP S/4HANA utilities, positioned to benefit from ongoing advancement of SAP Fiori in subsequent SAP S/4HANA releases

This session will share the use case for object recognition, the learnings from a browser first strategy during greenfield SAP S/4HANA Utilities implementation, speak to the different challenges related to Fiori deployment in a brownfield implementation of SAP S/4HANA, compared to greenfield and will also discuss how SA Power Networks are approaching Fiori in the system conversion of ECC to SAP S/4HANA.

Unlocking Agility and Adaptability

Born and bred in wild Patagonia, Gus Balbontin never allowed his small town and humble beginnings get in the way of his big dreams. A healthy disrespect for authority and a severe case of FOMO landed him in Australia at the young age of 17. By the age of 22 he had dropped out of uni, hitchhiked South America, set up his first business and landed his dream job at Lonely Planet. Fast forward a few more years and he was leading the company globally, working with companies such as Google X, Nokia and Amazon on the latest technology, creative cultures and high performing teams. Seeking a change from corporate life, he hung up his boots as the executive director and CTO of Lonely Planet and decided to move back to his entrepreneurial roots, becoming an investor, founder and mentor across the start-up ecosystem in Melbourne. He loves sharing a story, but loves even more, knowing those stories make a difference to people, helping them in their own business and life.

Over the last 3 years Gus Balbontin has presented to audiences of 10 across regional Australia and New Zealand, to audiences of 10,000 across North America, Europe, South America and Asia. To him there’s no difference. Small, large, private, public, board room to mail room, his lessons hit a chord, his simplicity disarms you, his energy infects you and his counterintuitive way of looking at the world will motivate you to do things different. Often thought as futurist, not because he predicts the future, but instead because he helps you focus on what you can control to deal with any future. Still want to talk trends? Sure! Gus Balbontin loves as much as the next person trying to imagine a world run by AI, but he warns that getting too distracted with future guesses will only take time away from you and your company to actually do something about the future.

What will you take away from listening to Gus is:

1. Understand the challenges of corporate momentum and how to break traditional, repetitive business processes in favour of agile and more entrepreneurial models.
2. Learn how to create structures and systems capable of supporting established AND emerging business models simultaneously.
3. Gain insight into how to transform your business, departments, teams and colleagues to become more adaptable and succeed in rapid changing markets.
4. Recognise how our brain has evolved primarily to hunter-gather and not for current speed of advancement. We are at odds with our own instincts.

Gus will help you love change and become aware of your instinctual rejection to change.

Our goal is to deepen the connections between Corning and its employees to enable the next 170 years of life-changing innovations. Corning’s People Strategy and Technology group is laser focused on providing technology solutions that not only meet the learning, growth and development goals of both our employees and our businesses, but also deliver exceptional value, employee experience and overall operational excellence. MASTERCLASS: How to Create a Roadmap to a Data Driven Organisation

To make the transition to a data driven organisation, we need to understand where we are, what work needs to be done, and how to get there. Knowing where to start is half the battle. The other half is implementing the steps in a way that shows continuous value.  Just as we create metrics to measure success for the organisation, the path to success to creating a data culture also needs measurements to ensure accountability wrapped in a sustainable process. This allows us to showcase the value provided to our organisation.

In this interactive workshop, we will:

  • Leverage data to determine the baseline for your organisation
  • Understand how to create the steps needed for your organisation
  • Learn how to build relationships and communicate successfully
  • Build data-driven accountability in your organisation

MASTERCLASS: Reinvent the Wheel with SAP S/4HANA Security

SAP has delivered nearly 15000 apps in the Fiori library. With this innovation driven to enhance user experience, there is a significant gap in managing risks. Prior to SAP S/4HANA only a single database user was needed, now with eHANA reporting users exist directly on the database and even datacenters are changing from private data centers to private cloud or even internet enabled. All these changes create risk which needs to be managed before the wheels fall off the cart.

How to Eat an Elephant: Learn How Bega Integrated their M&A Divestment End-to-End

Bega, after acquiring Lion Drinks and Dairy division, needed to carve out a relevant IT ecosystem which included over 200 systems and their entire SAP landscape – whilst ensuring operations for both organizations never missed a beat. This meant that the supply chain had to stay entirely unaffected: every order needed to be processed seamlessly, every milk truck needed to pick up milk deliveries on time, and there could be no interruption of service to customers or consumers. This 9-month program ensured the seamless divestment of over 200+ critical systems from Lion, including a 16 terabyte SAP system, 18 terabyte BW system, two CRM platforms, the implementation of new SAP applications, such as Integrated Business planning and SAPM CRM for Field Sales all on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ¬¬platform.

Seamless data migration – and data separation between Lion D&D and Bega Group
• On time and on budget ingestion of a large-scale divestment
• Delivered seamless business operations post go live with manufacturing, supply chain, ordering, deliveries etc.

Deliver Building Consents, Fast with Regulatory User Experience (R-UX)

In 2016 Auckland Council consolidated multiple legacy systems that existed due to the 2010 amalgamation of eight local councils in to one, using SAP NewCore. By 2020 Auckland Council were facing an unprecedented demand in processing building consents and operating on a cumbersome system that had multiple manual backend processes which were time consuming and open to inaccuracies.

Auckland Council’s “Regulatory User Experience (R-UX)” project was run entirely remotely during COVID-19 pandemic. Utilising Design Thinking, the team reviewed 152 user stories to inform and design the solution, integrating historical systems tasks (across seven unique SAP platforms) into two new SAP Fiori apps: R-UX Overview and Document Management system.

These solutions have allowed the users to see key information, create correspondence from SAP, add time recording, easily reassign SAP records, view documents and reporting within a single consolidated platform.  The R-UX Overview application was built using SAP RAP model, utilising Fiori elements, CDS views and was mobile ready. The customised system leverages its core SAP enterprise-wide system has been designed to integrate with SAP Fiori, SAP UI5, SAP CRM, CDS Views, AMDP, and OpenText. Providing Auckland Council with a centralised processing hub for consenting information that can grow in scale and capability according to the Council’s emerging needs in a post-Covid environment.

Results achieved:

  • Navigation to key information required to review/process/monitor consents improved by 50%
  • Allocation of workload reduced from 55 clicks to 6 clicks
  • Improved user interface for Regulatory Consenting & Compliance team leaders and staff
  • R-UX provides bulk assignment and re-assignment of task checklists, which was previously a manual task done by individual record

Improving Customer Experience, Insights and Engagement using IoT and AI

We link live to the SAP Experience Centre in Singapore to spend an interactive day in the life of a future consumer persona. We will follow them as they start their day with breakfast and ask their Smart-Fridge to ensure all their groceries are stocked for their day ahead. The Smart-Fridge communicates with the supermarket, to understand current supermarket stock levels, what is on back order or what may have perished. We’ll then follow the consumer as they visit their retail store to buy new clothes, where we’ll see the possibilities of a touchless commerce experience that uses wireless and machine learning technologies. This session will demonstrate the art of the possible for the future of retail and how SAP customers are improving customer experience, visibility and productivity in a retail context using IoT and AI.

Drawing on SAP retail customer examples in APAC, SAP Customer Activity Repository (CAR) and new technologies outside of SAP, Now.AI which uses social media and other sources, to identify which retail products are trending. For those concerned with innovation and technology in retail and for anyone looking to innovate how they engage their customers and gain insights.

Connecting SAP to an Application Network for Enterprise-Wide Connectivity

With increasing demand to ensure interconnectivity between varied systems within an enterprise landscape, many systems provide integration solutions to facilitate ingestion and retrieval of data. It is unsustainable for an integration team spanning the enterprise to learn, develop, and maintain various middleware products. Using an integration platform to expose SAP data through OData models to the enterprise application network can mitigate this risk and lower the integration complexity on the SAP system. Understand an application network versus typical point to point integrations

Is Managing the “Whole” Employee too Big a Bite to Take?

There is a growing consensus that the more you can understand about your employees the better you can manage them. Additionally, allowing employees to be part of their own career journey encourages retention of talent.

But how do we get there? Moving to a competency and skills-based talent management framework in bite sized chunks has to be doable (i.e. in steps that are consumable by the business without making either HR or the employees sick along the way).

  • How do we do it and what do we need to consider?
  • Where is the value?
  • What can we do as HXM leaders to realise that value in our businesses?

Crying Babies, Barking Dogs, Did I Really Say that Off Mute?

In the fall of 2019, I had this idea of blogging about ideas that circulate at 30,000 feet – reflections on the people side of an SAP Finance career. The general idea was “thoughts from the window seat”. Then came a global pandemic and instead of musing from the sky, I had to concentrate on muting myself during Zoom meetings in my spare room at home. My window seat was no longer a great view from above the earth, it was a glimpse of my apartment parking lot.

These days, thoughts on the people side of my career are through a very different lens. As we re-join the brick-and-mortar workplace, what have we learned about valuing our human assets?

Join me in this interactive discussion on the challenges and the rewards of a human centric workplace.

How can the Finance Leader of Today Become the Chief Value Officer of Tomorrow?

How can the Finance Leader of Today Become the Chief Value Officer of Tomorrow?

Let’s ask a different question – will you create competitive and sustainable advantages by becoming the Chief Value Officer as the co-driver of your business? The focus for building a long-term ethical and responsible business can be seen across society, the investor community and the C-Suite. Share- and Stakeholder perception is often more important than great financials. A company’s value narrative drives valuation by granting transparency on the business model sustainability. We believe there are 3 foundations that will set you up as a CVO for success:

  1. Optimise your value narrative – Understand the company’s meaning, purpose and the key drivers of value for your business and translate it into a new long term value steering & reporting concept that is tangible and quantifiable with data.
  2. Sustainable decision making – The drivers of your entire value proposition must be incorporated into an integrated decision-making approach. Sustainable decision making is the new reality for market valuation, access to capital & stakeholder perception.
  3. Build trust & transparency – Your value proposition must be measurable and honest, articulated in your strategy, translated in numbers and heard by your stakeholders. This calls for digital, agile finance capability.

“Sustainability issues are no longer something that can be addressed after strategic investment decisions have been made – rather, we believe they are indispensable to making investment decisions” – Blackrock

Rise and Beyond – Migration and Data Strategy

Rise and Beyond – Migration and Data Strategy

The “RISE with SAP” initiative answers the question of how companies can transform into intelligent enterprises more rapidly. It aims to reduce the complexity of digital transformations to a minimum, paving the way for companies to move to the cloud and SAP S/4HANA, offering an innovative IT environment that functions as a strategic partner to the business units – going beyond.

Companies are under increasing pressure for companies to approach transformation and digitalization holistically. Tackling a transformation alone is hard work, and the harmonious migration and transformation of data is a critical factor here. However, the sheer volume of processes, platforms, goals and systems alone causes many projects to get out of hand, both financially and in terms of time.

Agility, speed and efficiency are determining success and failure more than ever before. What must companies consider as they “Rise with SAP”?

  • How does the business case stack up for the S/4HANA Cloud move?
  • How do you deal with all the SAP data involved?
  • Business should Go Beyond with Rise with SAP – Where and how?
  • Lower TCO, Less Risk? Absolutely!

Run your SAP Landscape like a Formula 1 Team

The “SAP Go Live” day was a big success. The project team popped the champagne, and they could finally take a deep breath. The core technology for the intelligent and sustainable enterprise is in place, and core business functions are excited about the new horizons they can reach.

Fast forward six months, hyper care is over; the project team is not there anymore to manage change requests and fixes quickly. The first feature pack has been released; new regulatory requirements need to be implemented; defects need to be fixed; core business functions want to pivot to stay competitive and need their SAP systems to align with business objectives. All of these cost money, and enterprises can feel the cost pressure as if they are sponsoring an underperforming Formula 1 team, which can bankrupt its (business) sponsor within one racing season without delivering the promised championship (business benefits).

This discussion will analyse the major cost factors of running an SAP landscape and the solutions required to enable agility while keeping the cost within acceptable boundaries to win Championships.

SAP User Access Provisioning (IAM vs GRC) – Understand your Options

SAP User Access Provisioning (IAM vs GRC) – Understand your Options

Assigning SAP user access via an Identity Access Management solution versus the Access Control (GRC) solution. The pros and cons of both provisioning methodologies, as well as when to consider a hybrid approach.

Identity Access Management solutions can bring about great efficiencies in the user access provisioning process but are less well equipped to identify access risk. On the other hand, access control solutions are well equipped to identify access risk but are less powerful at user provisioning.

In this session we will discuss some scenarios where the benefits of provisioning SAP access using an IAM solution outweigh that of GRC solution, as well as other scenarios where provisioning access using the Business Role concept (of the access control / GRC) solution are more beneficial than that of the IAM solution.

  • Gain an understanding of the advantages / disadvantages of each solution for user provisioning and user access reviews
  • With an understanding of your organisation’s business objectives, be in a position to recommend the most appropriate provisioning strategy for your organization

The Y NSW’s SuccessFactors Journey – Lessons Post Launch

The Y NSW required an integrated HRIS to meet the business needs, which would support recruitment, onboarding and changes to employment information, including an LMS that could track qualifications, and host e-learning.

The lack of integration in the existing HR systems meant information was hard to locate, reports relied on manipulation of excel data and the business lacked confidence in systems. The new system had to be user friendly for team members ranging in age, tech ability, employment status (ie permanent and very casual staff) from recruitment to exit.

The implementation achieved:

  • An integrated HRIS with Resource Hub (user friendly reference guides and FAQ’s webpage launched at the same time)
  • Accurate data and reporting leading to manager confidence
  • Qualification compliance increase from 54% in system to 89% in system

Hear how The Y NSW prepared for the implementation and kept their end-users at the forefront of all decisions, ensuring there was full understanding of the business requirements to implement a solution that was fit for future needs and ensure they had a team dedicated to the transition and launch.

How to be a Finance Business Partner That Becomes the Influential Voice at The Heart of Decision Making

Delivering improved value to the taxpayer through robust financial management is always important. Finance Business Partners (FBPs) is one of the ways organisations are looking at this. Government departments have moved forward at different speeds, but the fundamental aim is to provide sound and trusted advice that supports delegate decision-making, with the FBP being the connection from the business into finance and vice versa. Therefore, a successful FBP must be a “business expert”. But how?

  • What skills does a great Finance Business Partner need?
  • How can you gain a real understanding of your business needs?
  • What opportunities are there to incrementally improve finance processes, particular in a constrained fiscal or uncertain future systems environment?

Achieving Digital Transformation & Intuitive UX at Hydro Tasmania

Hydro Tasmania wanted to reap the benefits of converting from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. The organisation set out to simplify and systemise existing processes, improve the user experience for staff, and introduce more contemporary technology to continue building future capability and lay the foundation for a broader innovation program. This session will share insights from Hydro Tasmania’s 12-month journey to convert to SAP S/4HANA and becoming one of the first SAP customers to roll-out Fiori 3 to its users.

While the project team started fully in the office, the global COVID-19 pandemic meant the team had to rapidly pivot and operate in a 100% remote capacity, achieving a go-live at financial year end with minimal disruption to business and financial operations. Hydro Tasmania has since begun the broader innovation program to roll out 20 new Fiori tiles and deployment of other SAP S/4HANA functions/modules.

The project has delivered greater process visibility and Fiori 3 provides a more rapid, streamlined, and intuitive user experience. With the Fiori dashboard and new tiles delivered in the innovation phase, employees can easily access new analytical pages and drill down into different data dimensions. The business has achieved a direct cost saving thanks to HANA sidecar and other resource savings opportunities.
