Speed of Advance – How the U.S. Navy’s convergence of People, Process and Technology can help your business win in the 4th Industrial Revolution
In today’s world of digital transformation many companies look for a silver bullet in technology first, rather than defining a strategy based on capabilities required to drive exponential versus incremental improvements in their business outcomes. The promise of the 4th Industrial Revolution will only be achieved by companies that have a long-term strategy to converge people, process and technology into a live common operational picture of their operations. In this presentation Marty will provide the parallels between the speed of air warfare and the speed of retail, as well as how the U.S. Navy converged people, process, and technology to win. He will translate his experience in U.S. Navy with his supply chain and manufacturing experience and how it relates to the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The presentation will include:
- What is the concept of “Speed of Advance” and how it applies to all businesses?
- How the U.S. Navy converged people, process, and technology to cope with the speed of air warfare
- How the speed of retail is driving the same demands on our supply chains, infrastructure, and manufacturing
- Why the strategy for the convergence of people, process, and technology is critical for your digital transformation
The audience will take away three key learnings:
- Why not to start with technology in your 4th Industrial Revolution journey
- What is “Speed of Advance” concept and why it is important to your business outcomes
- How to develop your people, process, and technology strategy to drive exponential improvement in business outcomes

Achieving Seamless SAP EWM MFS Integration – Without the Middleware!
Sigma Healthcare had outgrown its existing distribution centre in Hobart and embarked on a project to construct a new greenfield facility to increase capacity. The company was installing a conveyor at the new site to aid in the picking and packing process and was looking for a way to integrate it with SAP EWM processes, without the need for middleware. SAP MFS (Material Flow System) was successfully deployed to bridge the communications gap between conveyor PLCs and EWM.
Sigma is now benefitting from seamless integration: “This is the first site that we have not used a third party to integrate our automation equipment with SAP, so having this direct integration has improved efficiencies, which has allowed greater capacity to flow through the process. Reducing human inputs and utilising scanning for pick verifications has also increased our pick accuracy for a more streamlined operation.” Hear how Sigma worked with SAP supply chain specialists The Config Team, to deliver a truly connected warehouse operation. This session will share:
- Benefits of direct MFS integration with SAP EWM
- Automation enabling SAP EWM to provide further improvements to warehouse operations
- How end user buy-in helped ensure a successful adoption

EAM Case Study: AGL’s Mental Health Incident Management App built in SAP using Human Centred DesignEAM Case Study: AGL’s Mental Health Incident Management App built in SAP using Human Centred Design
The issue of mental health and related impacts on the health and wellbeing of AGL’s workforce was increasingly becoming of material concern to the management. Unfortunately, the extent of and potential severity of this issue was relatively unknown due to a lack of accurate and dependable reporting and analysis of these types of incidents.
There was an urgent need to create a process where employees and relevant leaders can adequately and confidentially identify, report and monitor psychologically impacting events in the workplace, or events which impact them in a way which requires support, acknowledgment or intervention by their colleagues, leaders, and relevant Human Resource partner and injury management coordinators.
We developed a Fiori app using Human Centered Design (HCD) principles to record and confidentially process these incidents with enough smarts built in to determine the level of support required for processing the incident with sensitivity. By focusing on building genuine empathy for, and understanding of, the people that will be using the app, HCD approach helped make sure that the new app was tailor-made to meet the workers’ needs and wants.
The audience will take away three key learnings:
- Psychosocial incidents are becoming a material concern for the current and future workforce.
- Human centered design principles help approach a problem with empathy to create solutions tailor-made for efficient use.
- Leveraging the integrations and security features available within SAP made it possible!
- The Benefits of first of its kind app built in SAP using HCD principles

Sailing In Rough Seas – The Case for Maintenance Mobility
Implementing mobile maintenance solutions in asset-intensive industries carries unique challenges, risks, and opportunities. From preparing a relevant business case to mastering mobility, this journey is filled with all sorts of pitfalls. Uncover where to set sail, how to navigate perilous seas – and above all, why venture into this relatively unchartered territory in the first place. By building the right crew, embarking on the right itinerary, and docking on the right shore at the right time – this crossing might well come out as particularly fruitful and rewarding.
Checklists – A Long Time Coming
Inspection checklists are crucial for maintenance execution, reliability analysis, and audits. While maintenance inspections have traditionally been conducted by the means of paper checklists, a fair question is the digitalisation of this data. For years, maintenance operators have tried to solve this seemingly simple problem, resulting in all kinds of workarounds. Seek no more. In the latest S/4HANA release, inspection checklists are now standard EAM functionality. In this session, you will learn how to implement them effectively, in the context of the new S/4HANA nine-phase model for the maintenance processes.

How Denbury Resources are Transforming Customer Service and Optimizing Procurement with Standard SAP
Two years after implementing Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and pandemic related supply chain issues easing up, we were still providing less than stellar customer service to our Operations team. Although we mastered MRP exceptions, we were still struggling to exceed the expectations of our customers.
Our purchasing process was tedious, very labor intensive and time consuming. Armed with very little standard SAP procurement process knowledge, we spent a single day and learned how to use the tools we already had. We went from missing demand windows to exceeding expectations almost overnight. This success story will take you through the daily processes we follow, using standard SAP tools, to prioritize and optimize our procurement transactions and cut our procurement cycle time by 50-60%.
- Using standard SAP functionality to speed up and optimize purchasing processes.
- How the MRP process drives optimization between supply Chain and operations
- What MRP exceptions are and how they prioritize work

Achieving Supply Chain Performance Through Inventory Data Grouping and Prioritizing
Data grouping in a supply chain is essential for standard reporting and prioritizing of work in the “day in the life” of supply chain team members. Rather than working “top down” on printed “to do” lists there is a very practical way to group materials in the supply chain to do effective process and inventory analysis. Unfortunately, implementations of SAP do not apply effective data grouping techniques, and organizations often find themselves having to regroup to move forward.
This session will take you through the important grouping options necessary to align with the standard prioritizing tools, techniques, and analysis available in the standard SAP suite of tools. Effective grouping is the first step towards workload prioritization in the supply chain functions. Learnings from this session can be taken back to your workplace to apply with “quick win” results.
- Understand the primary building block towards successful supply chain integration
- Realize the opportunity to work the most important material first
- Your system can prioritize your work based on business value

The session will include:
- What does it take in SAP S/4HANA to be ready for APM technology?
- Why think out of the box with APM Concepts
- Technically, what does APM require in terms you can understand?
- Functionally, what will your organization have to do to support, use and see value from APM?
- Where is Precision Drilling going next, and how do we keep in lockstep with SAP?
Are there lessons from this project? Yes, but they are more like key takeaways than lessons. Why say that? Well, each of our organizations is different, and the lessons that Precision Drilling learned will be different than what you learn—the key takeaways, though, will benefit everyone.
1. Data, as always, leads the pack in importance
2. Discipline within executing your business processes
3. Scrutiny of the data and the processes (Who is going to look at and act upon exceptions and outliers?)
We promise you will come away from this session with a deeper understanding of APM technically and what functionality it has. But, maybe more importantly, though, will be your overall ability to believe in the concept of APM and specifically SAP’s product!

The nuclear medicine long term forecasting and financial forecast was excel based, the forecast book was manual, took days to update and could only be run by one person. The transition to SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) gave ANSTO the freedom to have on demand actual sales data matched with the forecast data by customer and by SKU. It also gave insights into supply buying patterns and planning assumptions which could be compared with actual planning data to empower us to make data driven decisions to make our processes more efficient.
The presentation will share how trusted data and ANSTO have achieved a reduction in costly imported products equal to $1M savings for the company, gained insights into customer behavior and the ability to categorize customer and products for effective reporting.
Join this session to understand the;
- Importance of not over customizing an SAP IBP implementation
- Using SAP to gain trust in data to have more impact when delivering insights
- The importance of reliable data to have a secure supply chain

Transitioning to SAP S/4HANA 2022: How TasNetworks Delivered this Transformation, and What Next?Transitioning to SAP S/4HANA 2022: How TasNetworks Delivered this Transformation, and What Next?
TasNetworks successfully transitioned from ECC6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA 2022 (on prem) in May 2023. Getting there required us to plan around SAP’s roadmap, decide whether to cloud or not to cloud, to Fiori or not Fiori, manage significant new business requirements, understanding multiple dependent projects, all while conducting a wholesale business transformation impacting people and processes.
A five-year roadmap across the EAM and wider SAP footprint was developed resulting in moving away from SAP for field service management functions as well as a soft launch into Fiori and other supporting processes like SAP Signavio. This session will share how this work fitted into TasNetworks wider ICT roadmap and why it was a major driver for the timing of this project.
- A customer’s view on making a successful transition to SAP S/4HANA
- A clear plan to deliver to a truly transformed business
- Understand the decision inputs and reasoning for landing on going to SAP S/4 HANA 2022 on premise, with limited Fiori.
- What is the ‘real’ value that SAP has in your business and how has our world changed?

Removing Procure to Pay Complexity with Process Automation and Fiori Apps at AusNet
AusNet implemented SAP ECC6 in May 2015, due to widespread business user concerns (200+) that SAP purchasing process was too complex and difficult to use. The decision was taken to continue to use SAP core procurement processes, but to develop Fiori applications that would enable the AusNet business users to have a much-improved user experience via SAP Fiori Application development.
AusNet has developed a suite of SAP Fiori Applications to support the end to end Procure to Pay process, these include E-Buy – Create Purchase Requisitions, Purchasing Dashboard, Manage Purchase Orders, Invoice Workflow & PO Receiving and Purchase Order Approval. In addition to the Fiori application developments, extensive work has been completed to implement automated P2P processes; Purchase Requisitions (PR) are either converted into Purchase Orders via an automated program or are considered an exception for manual Purchase Order creation. 80-90% of AusNet Purchase Orders are being created automatically and work flowed for approval.
Jon will share an overview of the Ariba, SAP and Fiori Application technology being used at AusNet. Deep Dive: Why Believe in SAP Asset Performance Management? Best in Class EAM Modernisation – A View from the Mountain TopDeep Dive: Why Believe in SAP Asset Performance Management?
This Deep Dive session is a follow-on from our Asset Performance Management (APM) overview session presented at Mastering SAP in 2022 and is a deeper look into the burgeoning world of Asset Performance Management.
One year ago, Precision Drilling was on the cusp of a productive APM tenant. Today, after several months of production time with APM, the team can present and demonstrate the use cases implemented and results.
