How to Predict the Future with This One Weird Old Trick

In the mid 1990s - when the web was increasingly a battle ground of browser behemoths, and Netscape Navigator was seen as the next Windows - John Allsopp saw the importance and future dominance of CSS and a standards based web when few others did. In the year 2000 he wrote "A Dao of Web Design", 10 years later a significant quote from this starts Ethan Marcotte's now famous article introducing Responsive Web Design in a List Apart. His ideas formed the foundation for Typekit, for which he was a founding advisor. To much criticism, he predicted the disaster the iOS App market would present for developers, when many others saw it as a boon for these very same developers. Ironically, predicting the future isn't all that difficult (over certain timeframes). In this keynote presentation John will look at some of the lessons he's learnt from his successful prognostications, discuss some of his failures as well, and then look at the next few years and where he thinks you should be concentrating your efforts. John is a co-founder of the Web Directions conference series and author of one of the earliest books on Microformats. As a software developer, long standing web development speaker, writer, evangelist and self-proclaimed expert, he’s spent the last 20 years working with and developing for the web.

Generating 220 Ideas in 110 Minutes Using 6.5 Creativity Methods

During this fun and interactive masterclass attendees will be inspired by the power of creativity techniques and break out of their own fixed thinking patterns. Cyriel will explore the creative process and provide you with 6.5 techniques to generate a lot of ideas in a short amount of time within your own organisation. You’ll also take back to the office the methods to select, fine-tune and cluster the top ideas into a concept.

Using Social Tools to Drive Change in Your Organisation

In our private lives, most people are at least aware of, if not using, a variety of different types of social media to "stay in the know" and to "be connected". But many organisations are still coming to terms with how to leverage the benefits of these tools for internal collaboration. If you're involved in a project or a change initiative, you may be keen to expand your arsenal to make use of social tools internally. However, there can be a number of pitfalls that you don't normally see with traditional engagement tools. Using real examples of the use of social collaboration tools in the implementation of a major SAP project, Greg will show how you can hit the ground running when you integrate social into your change management plan. Greg has been dealing with technology ever since joining the Royal Australian Air Force as a pilot. Although he doesn't claim to have "mastered" technology, he has devoted much of the last 15 years of his career to working with project teams as they strive to deliver improvements into their businesses. He has a particular passion for change and enjoys helping people adopt change with confidence.

Trust – Mindset – Courage

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ski down a mountain at 100km/hr? How you might do this when you’re vision impaired and being instructed by someone else acting as your eye sight? Would you have the courage to trust someone when they literally take your life into their hands? At the age of 17, Jessica was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative eye disease, impacting her sporting dreams as a netballer, and at the age of 21, by chance, found the world of Paralympic sport. In 2008, banned from competing at the Beijing Paralympics after being deemed too sighted, she continued to lose her sight and later became Australia’s first female winter Paralympic medallist in 2010. It’s somewhat ironic that the expert who might lead us into this future is one with low vision but an acute foresight around what it will take to thrive.
