Mastering SAP Financials

The world is changing. In the last two years more data was produced globally than in all of history. The volume continues to grow exponentially resulting in massive economic and societal disruption. New technologies are emerging. Financial and accounting processes are fast transforming into a streamlined finance operation that drives profitable growth, ensures compliance and represents a single version of the financial truth. Technology like Simple Finance, Cloud, BPC, Fiori and S/4HANA are the essentials tools and enablers of this transformation. Against this backdrop we have created Mastering SAP Financials.

What if You Were Becoming Obsolete and Didn’t Even Know?

We are living in an age of unprecedented disruption. Once-lucrative revenue models are under siege. Market structures and distribution channels that have been stable for decades are crumbling before our eyes. The demise of brands such as Kodak, Borders and Blockbuster leaves us with little doubt – shift is happening and no organisation or business is immune. In this fast-paced & compelling keynote presentation, audiences discover:

  • Why most organisations and businesses don’t realise they are becoming obsolete 'til it's almost too late
  • The four major shifts that are causing brands and industries to become irrelevant
  • Proven and practical strategies for staying ahead of the curve and competition
Audience members will leave this presentation with a game plan for successfully navigating change and emerging stronger and more relevant than ever.

Real-Time Planning and Consolidation

SAP S/4HANA represents a massive simplification in Accounting, bringing together into the heart of the new accounting solution – the universal journal – transactional data that was previously part of the General Ledger, Controlling, Asset Accounting and Material Ledger. In this session Janet will look in more details at the new accounting model and its impact on planning and consolidation. Each of these applications also had their own totals records that stored the same data in period blocks. Traditional planning applications in SAP were similarly fragmented as they updated the totals tables. Now, SAP BPC optimized for SAP S/4HANA offers a single planning model that covers the same reporting dimensions as the universal journal, but allows you to plan either at the detailed level (cost center, order, project, CO-PA characteristic) and aggregate by company code and profit center, or plan at the higher level and disaggregate. With 1610 you have the option to store planning data in the embedded BW or in the new ACDOCP table, designed to mirror the ACDOCA table (universal journal). As you think about the potential impact of such a change, it is important to consider the reporting dimensions used not just for accounting and management reporting, but also to provide the basis for consolidation, since the new solution will also offer consolidation functions that source their base data directly from the universal journal. With 1610 you have the option to perform basic consolidation directly on top of the universal journal.

Placing SAP at the Core of Your Digital Future

Ballance’s Chief Information Officer Dave Scullin will share why he believes companies can’t be smart going forward without a clear digital strategy and why S/4HANA is a critical component of their strategy. Almost a year post go-live Ballance is executing on a technology roadmap based on simplification and real-time. Join this session to get a real-life insight into what Ballance has achieved. Hear how key business processes have become 75 per cent quicker, freeing up their people to be more productive. At the same time, find out how Ballance has overcome the challenges that come along with implementing a brand new technology and gain an appreciation of what it takes to make the most out of S/4HANA in your own business.

Lessons Learned from the Frontline: Strategies to Enable Global Financial Integration and Standardisation

Woodward is always working on better integrating systems and improving reporting and analysis capabilities. Financial reporting and consolidation drove them to integrate and automate the integration of financial data between ERP systems and their BPC tools. Cooperation between IT and Finance was essential to define strategic integration roadmaps. Hear how they built detailed timelines to make sure they did the right implementation at the right time – minimising impact to the users and lessened rework on a new project. Get insights in the major wins from their integration project – including integrating financial data from proprietary ERP system, 2 legacy acquisition systems, and SAP ERP; a unified chart of accounts; financial shared service centres and standard reporting packages, but flexibility to customise reporting to each segment and plant.

Transforming Your Finance Culture to Enable a Single Source of the Truth

In 2014, Ferrara Candy Company’s Finance team did not talk the same language or look at the same numbers with each other, Sales, or Demand Planning teams. Selecting SAP BusinessObjects on HANA enabled a paradigm shift in how Finance is executed. The transformation of Finance through establishing a strong BI governance and culture enabled everyone to have a single source of truth.  No longer were reports stored and managed on workstations but rather accessible on the enterprise BI reporting solution. BusinessObjects enabled finance users to have the right tool, the right information, at the right time!

  • Identification of strategic imperatives of company
  • Created road map of how each department’s initiatives would impact company goals
  • Steering committee approval and sponsorship
  • Super user community created with focus on cross functional collaboration and self-service BI
  • Opportunity for developers to work on latest and greatest technology
  • Outsourcing of resources meant to support and enable both IT and business

From Teams to Tribes: Creating a One Team Culture

People naturally form tribes. It is just what we do. When we bring together teams to work in a department, or on a program or product this team of teams will become a tribe. However, not all tribes are equally effective. Just like with regular teams it is the culture of the tribe that dictates its effectiveness. When we look to improve the performance of these teams of teams, we often get so focused on improving technical skills and individual performance that we can easily forget to help the teams involved bond, foster a sense of belonging, shape their values and instil respect for one another. To maximise the effectiveness of any team of teams, we need to take the time to build a culture beyond the team’s individual identity to create a sense of tribal unity. Based on her debut book, Tribal Unity: Getting from Teams to Tribes by Creating a One Team Culture, Em Campbell-Pretty will share the proven patterns she has been successfully applying in the field over the past five years. Peppered with tales from the trenches this session will be full of practical ideas to help you lead a team of teams towards tribal unity.

Central Finance – Building an S/4 HANA Platform for Finance Transformation

Fonterra are one of the early organisations to embark on a Central Finance project. Currently in the build phase of the project, there are already many learnings for other organisations considering a Central Finance approach. Hear about how Central Finance will be used, including the various potential use cases and deployment options. Understand the importance of the new S/4 HANA finance data model and the business decisions on how to maximise benefits from this. At Fonterra their Central Finance approach is supporting finance transformation without the need for ERP rationalisation/ consolidation. See how a Central Finance business case can be best structured for different organisational goals.

How a Sports Team Mentality Helped Christchurch City Council Deliver an Upgrade in Record Time & Under Budget

After a recent restructure at Christchurch City Council, the IT Service team had gone from a highly energised, high engagement team to a record low and becoming the least engaged team in the IT department. The restructure had significantly changed the scope of work and workload. They lost senior team members but gained newer, much less experienced staff. Attend this session to learn how Ross turned a record low team engagement score of 25% to a 75% high in less than a year. Using what he learnt at Mastering SAP 2016 he translated a sports team approach into running his IT team by strengthening the culture, challenging leaders and team norms. Culminating in the completion of a SAP system upgrade in record time and $150k under budget! Experience how modelling the ways elite sports teams operate and handle pressure, while producing consistently top results has been well worth the investment. The four keys areas of the program:

  • Leadership
  • Value and culture
  • Review and prepare
  • Recovery

The second phase is currently being implemented, which will enhance the process with SAP BPC and S/4HANA, in preparation for the next budgeting cycle. The business leads will be using the new tools to support the new process to achieve accurate, timely, enterprise-wide financial planning.
