Mobile UI5 App at Union Pacific Improves Asset Utilisation
One fifth of Union Pacific Railroad’s business is Intermodal. UP owns and/or leases more than 160,000 containers and chassis that must be inspected and repaired across their network. Union Pacific previously outsourced tracking inspections and repairs of the equipment. With this project, they brought back in-house a system that tracks many millions in costs annually and built a mobile application that allows better tracking, improved controls and faster utilisation of the assets. Come hear how they built the system and took it mobile using the SAP Gateway.
- The Journey: Brief introduction of Union Pacific and Intermodal
- The Process: Inspection and repair of equipment across a wide geography by contractors
- The Solution: Insource a desktop app first and then mobile to improve asset utilisation
- The Lessons Learned: Integration, handling photos, end users in a BYOD environment
- The Demo: A look at the live screens. Showcase responsiveness and ease of use with integration into SAP PM, MM and S/D modules

The Only Thing to Fear is Fear Itself: Embracing Change & Seizing the Opportunity of the Digital Transformation
Business is advancing at light speed and it takes a near demi-god to keep up with it! Change isn’t always easy and without very strategic plans, clear communication, a transparent roadmap and the cultural support of all employees, the shop floor to the top floor, most change will be destined to fail. Join renowned Chief Information Officer, Keith Sturgill of Eastman Chemical, for this not to miss kick off to your conference experience.
Keith will share how Eastman and others are embracing the advancements being put forth by technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and how they are seizing opportunities that are rapidly emerging from an industry that is rapidly digitizing. Hear how for the first time in history, leaders and management from every function in the business can accurately in real-time pivot and make efficient and profitable decisions to propel the company.
According to Keith, it’s not about technology, it’s about better business – technology is just there to support!
Based in Kingsport, Tennessee, Keith joined Eastman in 1986 as a systems analyst and has since implemented enterprise-wide technologies that have significantly impacted the bottom line of Eastman. In 2007, he was promoted to VP and Chief Information Officer, and he also holds the Corporate Six Sigma certification for Eastman Chemical. He is responsible for the strategy, use and delivery of information technology services to Eastman’s global businesses.
